New research from Freshworks shows that companies are facing a potential crisis due to insufficient workplace technology – and simple software is the solution.
The study found that nine in ten (91%) employees said they are frustrated with their work software, and a staggering 71% of executives say employees will consider looking for a new job if their current employer doesn’t have access granted the tools, technology, or information they need to do their jobs well. Amid the talent war, nearly half of the world’s employees are still considering a job change, and easy-to-use technology is a major contributor to employee satisfaction.
Workplace Tech does not meet the expectations of its users. The report found that employees reported widespread outages in the workplace technology they use on a daily basis. The most common complaints included slow speeds (51%), prolonged IT response times (34%), lack of collaboration between departments (30%), lack of key functions/skills (28%) and lack of automation (25%).
Inadequate technology not only harms the employee experience, but also the entire organization. During the pandemic, companies are spending an estimated $15 billion an additional week on technology to enable remote work, according to KPMG. Freshworks survey shows that outdated technology hampers business productivity as frustrated employees grapple with day-to-day IT challenges. More than half (57%) of dissatisfied employees say their current software is making them less productive. Almost half (44%) of employees surveyed say the time they spend on technology issues has increased since the pandemic began.
And employee stress levels are skyrocketing due to limiting technology – nearly half (49%) of employees surveyed say they feel stressed by insufficient technology in the workplace, and 48% say it negatively impacts their mental health impacted. Executives agree: 38% say they feel stressed when they don’t provide their stakeholders with appropriate workplace technology.
There is light at the end of the tunnel, however, with 44% of employees saying easier-to-use software would help reduce their burnout.
