Why does it feel like it’s been at least a month since I last wrote one of these columns? Oh right, because so much stuff happened! One of the downsides of writing on a Friday is that I didn’t get to cover the weekend’s news in last week’s column. Let me tell you it went down this weekend. That went under Week. My head is still spinning.
Here’s a quick recap of the biggest announcements across the various shows (excluding Summer Game Fest, which I covered last week):
I think that covers the big stuff, but of course there are a lot of other stories in there. In non-show news, Activision Blizzard has apparently completed its own internal investigation into its own issues with harassment. A select portion of their report states: “While the board and management have implemented the above steps to further improve the workplace, it must be said that the company has faced a relentless barrage of media criticism that seeks to damage the entire company ( and many innocent employees) tainted with a very small fraction of our employee population who engaged in misbehavior and were punished for it.”
Incidentally, on a very related note, the company has a shareholders’ meeting where it encourages shareholders to vote against preparing a report on its efforts to prevent just such abuses. It also encourages her to vote for the executive compensation package that would increase CEO Bobby Kotick’s salary.
Since it’s been such a big week, I have to admit I haven’t had that much time to play games (other than more of the Three Hopes demo, which I’m still excited to see). But now that I have a three-day weekend ahead of me, I might give Neon White a try. But after Xbox unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Slime Rancher 2, the sequel to the jiggle sim title I love with all my heart, I decided to reinstall it and have been playing a lot of it for the past few days. If anything can keep me from burning out, it’s my adorable, wobbly children.
