June’s Journey, a popular hidden object game from developer Wooga, has just finished a tree planting campaign. In this event, players from all over the world can reforest the planet. The company is participating for the second time.
Their first tree planting event of 2021 resulted in the company planting 25,000 trees. At this year’s event, they went well beyond that. Thanks to dedicated players, Wooga has announced that it will plant over 200,000 trees in collaboration with Ecosia in 2022.
“With the overwhelming enthusiasm and passion of our players during our 2021 Green Game Jam initiative, we knew we could and should aim much higher in 2022,” said Nai Chang, Managing Director at Wooga. “We are overjoyed that we managed to increase the number of trees to be planted eightfold this year! This aligns with our belief at Wooga that it is important to raise awareness and take action on climate change. the least we should all do as individuals, consumers and responsible businesses.”
The Green Game Jam is an awareness-raising initiative of the United Nations Environment Programme. Aiming to raise environmental awareness and call gamers to arms, the program launched in 2019. This year is the biggest yet, welcoming 40 studios worldwide.
“It’s great to see Wooga’s growing contribution to landscape restoration as a result of the Green Game Jam,” said Sam Barratt, Head of Youth, Education and Advocacy at UNEP’s Ecosystems Division. “We look forward to seeing what else Wooga can do to restore landscapes through the power of play in the years to come.”
