Haden Blackman, the longtime leader of Hangar 13, is stepping down from his role and leaving 2K. It’s a big change for the studio that developed mafia games for Take-Two Interactive’s 2K label.
Nick Baynes, studio manager at Hangar 13 Brighton in the UK, will take over as new head of the studio, 2K has announced.
Blackman, a former LucasArts game developer, launched Hangar 13 in Novato, California in 2014. Blackman’s team oversaw the production of the acclaimed title, Mafia III. It was a flawed game, but I loved the story. The studio also released a remake of the original Mafia trilogy. As part of the expansion, Hangar 13 opened a new studio location in Brighton, England in 2018.
Here is the internal communication published by 2K.
It is with mixed feelings that I share some leadership updates from Hangar 13.
Haden Blackman is stepping down as studio head of Hangar 13, leaving the company to pursue his passion with a new venture. We’re grateful for Haden’s leadership in establishing Hangar 13, building and uniting teams in Novato, Brighton and Czech Republic, and releasing several studio-defining mafia games and collections. What Haden helped build will continue and grow in the years to come. We support all of our employees in pursuing their passions and wish him all the best for the future.
Nick Baynes, Hangar 13 Brighton studio manager, will take over as head of the Hangar 13 studio. With 30 years of industry leadership experience, Nick joined Hangar 13 in 2018 to set up Hangar 13 Brighton and has spent the last four years growing the team. Build the studio’s skills and launch great projects like Mafia: Definitive Edition and the Mafia trilogy.
I hope you will join me in thanking Haden, wishing him well and congratulating Nick on his well deserved promotion. While change can be challenging, it can also bring new opportunities and achievements.
We are confident that the studio is in good hands with the many projects currently underway and the team has the full support of 2K.
